I appreciate the posts and I gave a lot of thought to taking them off of
the server before deciding to. Of course I am very aware that my
ignorance skews my judgment.
I am a server user where I works and truly appreciate what it offers.
But in all honesty, this client doesn't use most of the features a
server offers. They use it for two functions: to host email and to
share, literally, a handful of documents. No back-ups are done.
They rely heavily on their PDA's and to get their emails, they have to
have their desktops on and have Outlook running just to push the emails
to the PDA. I had to do some work on the desktop and was unable to
take the pc off-site because he would have had a heart-attack if
Outlook was down for 24 hours. Web-based email would offer them a lot
more freedom, flexibility and stability. But how do I keep the same
email addresses and have them hosted by a third-party?
Also, currently, if they want remote access to any of the files on the
server they have to dial-in. Again, going with remote desktop or
web-based file sharing seems more attractive.
More thoughts and discussion are very welcomed. And I do plan on
becoming more educated in this area.
