Re: Remove shutdown in remote desktop

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Sorry to confuse you with my post. I was responding to Kevin's statement
about "Remote Web Workplace (RWW) for std mobile users will not offer a
shutdown option when they connect to their workstations at the office."
This is another post for Kevin when he visits here again. I did do a remote
session and the Windows Security menu is available which has the option to
Shutdown inside of it.

As to your question Leo about getting the Shutdown option removed from a
Remote Desktop session I'm not aware of a way to accomplish that so that it
would just apply when a user is in a remote session. With the way Windows
checks with the user before it begins the Shutdown process I don't see it as
a problem but that's me. When I'm logged on to the server remotely I am
extra cautious with what I do because I don't want to mess something up and
have to visit the server site.

As for using RWW or Remote Desktop you still end up at the same place so it
won't matter how you get there you will still be at the Desktop.

Maybe someone will know of a solution for you and post it here.

Thanks for the info but we are not using rww we are using remote desktop,
login to the server in fact.
We'd like to diable the shutdown option so as not to shutdown the server
by
mistake.
We tried doing this via group policy but it also disabled the shutdown
button on their local profiles when they re-connected their laptop to the
network unfortunately. We'd just like to turn it off in terminal services
only if possible.

If you are talking about some other scenario, please explain.

Hi all,
I am sure this is easy but it has me stuffed and your help is
appreciated.

I have a need to allow 2 users to connect remotely via remote desktop
in
SBS
2003.
I'd like to be able to remove the shutdown button on remote desktop
sessions
for these guy's without affecting their normal login profiles. I tried
this
through group policy from a doc i dowloaded from MS but it also removed
it
from their normal logins.
Can this be done for the users without affecting the admin login so we
can
shutdown if and when needed.

It is SBS 2003 standard edition not release 2 (yet)

thanks
Leo
