Re: 2 notebooks 1 server. sbs domain or workgroup. fax forwarding. outlook sync.

Hi Terence,

Sorry for the late reply, takes me a bit of time till I get to the
client.
I wasn't able to follow the steps, I couldn't completely understand
them.
I managed to join the domain using the connectcomputer wizard from the
browser. After changing a few configurations
but I but I had a few questions that I wasn't sure about and so I was
using a temporary account to test the process.

I created the username and password on the server to be able to join
the network, is that okay?

Was I supposed to join the domain, copy the user, move back to the
workgroup and then move to the domain?
or could I have just skipped all that and since I was on the workgroup
just join the domain? is that okay?

To assign the profile folder do I go to the server and set it up there
with the shared user folder from the client, so it would look
something like:
\\computername\systemdriver\users\username\

or am i getting this all wrong and i'm supposed to do that transition
with users from the domain to workgroup and then domain again and only
then it will let me browse for the account profile as part of the
wizard?

Thank you T,
Aaron.

When you join the computer to the Domain using the
Http://servername/connectcomputer Wizard, after you select the
computer
name you add the users which will be using the computer. At that time
you
can select to migrate the profile of the local user you wish to
migrate to
domain user profile.

Steps for your reference:
1. On the client computer, change the computer membership from the
domain
to workgroup. Create a local profile, and then copy the old domain
profile
to a local profile before you join the client to SBS 2K3 domain,

2. Use the Setup Computer Wizard in SBS 2003 to join the (now) XP Pro
machines to the SBS domain: Server Management, Standard Management,
Client
Computers, Set Up Client Computers.

3. On the client, access http//<Server name>/connectcomputer to bring
up
the Setup Computer Wizard, it will then allow you to map domain user
accounts to local profiles on the machine thus preserving your
profiles:
"Assign Users to this Computes and Migrate their Profiles".

4. You will Add a domain account to "Users assigned to this computer",
and
then choose the existing local user profile in the "Current User
Settings".
By Default, the value for "Current User Settings" is "None".
