Re: two domains in one network

Is this possible. Basically I have one internet connection throught Cable
when then runs to my PIX 501 firewall.

The reason I'm asking here is basically I currently have 1 SBS Server 2003
(which is currently being used) and I have an evaluation version which I
would like to test with. I would like to emulate as much as I can with
the
evaluation version to test and try different things with.

Running Virtual Machines hasn't worked out too well because of lack of
memory. I have an extra box that I've installed the evaluation SBS 2003,
but
I don't want to conflict with the Real SBS.

Is this possible? Any ideas other than running a virtual network?

Two independent servers can happily co-exist on the same network. The only
"buts" I can think of are:

1. DHCP. Since its the same network only one of them can act as DHCP server.
If you want both to then you'll need to migrate one to a separate network.

2. Exchange - basically anything that accepts connections externally,
because at your router/gateway ports can only be forwarded to one internal
address.

I'm sure there must be other issues, but I've run a second SBS on our
network for testing for short periods of time and not had any significant
problems. But that was only for testing, and the second server didn't stay
up for more than a couple of days.

If you do find an insurmountable problem (which would surprise me) then move
the second SBS server to its own separate network and put a second network
card in your pc so you can still talk to it. (and I'm sure there are plenty
of other similar solutions.)

Hope this helps.
