Re: Handheld Device VPN Word Docs

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

That has been my recommendation from the get go, but he insists that other CEO's (at the golf club no doubt) are able to do so.
Is it because they have infinite amounts of money to spend on elaborate hardware, or are they just using a different method?
This is my first walk in the park, but a colleague of mine recommended the procedure of bringing down a copy of the document to the local handheld and opening it locally, only to delete when finished. Would this be a good work-around for the slow opening speed? (The phone/handheld has expandable SD memory capability.)
Also - how would I get around the SharePoint Server to obtain a listing of these documents in File View from a shared drive?
Again - thanks for any/all input.

Our CEO just purchased a new Treo 750 with Windows Mobile on the
Cingular Network.
Now he wants to be able to remotely view (or change) the collection
of Word Documents currently residing on an SBS 2003 Premium Network
Share from his phone. There are thousands of folders with multiple
documents inside this share. Because of the structure (document
names are in Date Format), there is no way I can upload them to the
Share Point Services CompanyWeb site. I've already established a
secure VPN with the phone, but when I browse to the server address
using IE, I only get the SharePoint Site. The phone has Word and Excel installed on it.
Can anyone recommend a low cost solution?
Thanks in Advance.

I think this is an unfeasible request. Opening files across a speedy VPN connection (using a desktop) is bad enough, but I can't imagine it working well over a GPRS connection. A PDA/phone is not a true computer replacement. Even if you loaded all your stuff into Sharepoint, I don't know that he'd be able to open anything. Get him a laptop if this is a true need.
