Re: Blackberry on SBS?

Late reply but here goes...You said they are running SBS2003 Standard.
Standard does not include Exchange. But if they do have Exchange I would
download the FREE Blackberry Enterprise Server for Small Business. It comes
with one client license. You can then buy up to, if memory serves me
correclty, 15 client licenses at $99 each. I would definately put it on a
different server. I have only 3 users so it cost us $198 and am using an
older member server without issues.

Thanks all!

All good, relevant and very helpful information. FWIW, I've also discovered
that their devices are somewhat product-specific and that only some of them
support BES in any case, which again limits the clients options on that
platform. All-in-all, we're definitely going to try to encourage them down
the Windows Mobile route if that is at all an option at this stage for them
[as we would have done in the first place if they'd contacted us about this
beforehand!]

Again, thanks for the information - much appreciated.

Kind regards,

David

All together now...I LOVE MY WM5 DEVICE!! (PPC6700)

Me too, but a properly configured BES is a thing of joy, and you can't
tell me the stupid Windows Mobile web management interface Microsoft gave
us as an afterthought, in any way approaches the options you get in
BES....maybe in 2007, but I don't know much 2007 yet.

Hi all,

Just looking for some recommendations here.

Client has an SBS 2003 Standard set-up. Without having the sense
they were born with they've trotted off and bought 15 Blackberry's
*before*
speaking to us about it. Am advising them that they can use the
Blackberry
Desktop Software but that if they want real-time synching they'll
need to go
with BES or the Small Business Edition of BES. Seem to recall it
either not being recommended or not supported being installed on
the SBS box itself
and that a separate box was the best practice.

Blackberry, for their part, seem to support it on the SBS box:

Any thoughts?

Just forward exchange email to an additional contact made from the
provider's blackberry e-mail address. For example, forward
joe.bloggs@xxxxxxxxxxx to bloggs@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and you'll
have real time email.

...and no calendar/contacts/tasks, no GAL lookups, and sent items
will never show up in Outlook. I don't like this config any better
than the "Blackberry Desktop Redirector" one when there are better
options.
