Hello Jack,
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand that you get error "invalid
parameter" when you run the SBS backup wizard. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Based on my research, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can
resolve this issue:
Method 1: Change the backup location in the backup wizard:
Run the Windows SBS Backup Configuration Wizard.
a. On the Windows SBS-based computer, click Start, and then click Server
Management.
b. Click Backup, and then click Configure Backup.
c. On the Welcome page, click Next.
d. Click Change existing backup settings, and then click Next.
e. In the Backup Location page, select Back up to a local hard disk or
network share, type the path of a physical drive or of a valid network
location with valid character, such as the C:\Backups folder, and then
click Next. If you receive the following message, click No:
You have chosen to back up...Do you want to change the backup location?
f. Finish the Windows SBS Backup Configuration Wizard.
Method 2: Change the backup location in registry
Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry
incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These
problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at
your own risk.
To work around this issue, follow these steps:
Edit the registry to modify the backup target location. To do this, follow
these steps:
a. Click Start, click Run, type regedit , and then click OK.
b. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Backup
c. In the right pane, double-click Backup Location Path, and then input
the correct device with valid character.
d. Click OK to accept the registry changes and to exit Registry Editor.
If we can not resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures
to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Please capture screenshots on the summary page of the wizard shows an
invalid character as the destination drive and send the pictures to me at
v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| The SBS Backup Wizard does not ask for a destination (tape or disk) and
goes
| right to the exclude directories page. The summary screen shows an
invalid
| character as the destination drive and the wizard will then fail with
| "invalid parameter" which I am assuming is realted to the unicode
chracter as
| drive destination. Because of disk space issue SBS backup had been
disbled
| via the wizard.
|
| How do I now get it to again work or where do I go to delete the invalid
| character and replace it with a valid drive?
|
| Thanks
