Sure. You might have to boot into safe mode and change drivers etc. In
general it is always easier to restore to the same or a similar hardware but
I haven't come across a situation where you couldn't use the backup.

So what do you do if the system is toast and you can't get another box
with the same motherboard and chipset, or CPU, or drive type? Is an
"image" backup of use then?
