RE: SMTP dns

Hello Dsullys:

Thanks for updating.

I checked your log and found MSExchangeTransport 7010
and 7004, please take the following steps:

Step 1: Please make sure you have register valid DNS Host(A) record and PTR
record for your FQDN tfpby.org at your ISP and you could successfully
query it on the internet. You can use NSLOOKUP tool to have a check.

Using NSlookup.exe
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/200525

I noticed that you created the records on the SBS server. But to receive
and send Internet mail successfully, you must register them at ISP.

Step 2: Go into the properties of default smtp virtual server , under
delivery , click on advanced.Under fully qualified domain name, make sure
the FQDN name listed there is the one can be resolved legally from the
Internet.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

<Hello Dsullys,
<
<Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
<
<I am sorry for the delay due to the weekend.
<
<From your description, I know that after your MX host moved servers, some
<emails are stuck in Queue. If I am off-base, please don't hesitate to let
<me know.
<
<Based on my research,, I'd like to give you the following suggestions:
<
<Step 1: Accord to the massage "SMTP instance fully-qulified domain name
<does not match DNS resolved server name." , please make sure the ISP has
<correctly registered A/MX/PTR records for you.
<
<If you want this server to run as an internet mail server, a static public
<IP address is needed. In addition, you must make sure that your ISP has
<registered A/MX/PTR records for you.
<
<1. A DNS "A" record with the host name mail.clientdomain.com, where
<clientdomain.com is the name of your e-mail domain. The "A" record points
<to the public Internet IP address either of the computer running Windows
<Small Business Server or of your external firewall device or router.
<2. An "MX" record pointing to the "A" record.
<3. A "PTR" record pointing to the "A" record. Only your ISP can create
this
<record.
<
<The A/MX/PTR records can only be registered by your ISP and we cannot
<configure that on SBS server.
<
<Step 2: Please rerun the CEICW to configure the network and e-mail
<settings:
<
<To do this:
<
<1. Click Start, click Server Management. Click To Do List and then click
<"Connect to the Internet". Click Next, and go through the Internet option.
<2. Select Enable firewall and click Next.
<3. On the Web Services Configuration page shows, select item according to
<your enviroment. Click Next.
<4. On the Web Server Certificate page shows. Select "Create a new Web
<server certificate", and type your FQDN (mail.domain.com) in the "Web
<server name" text box. Click Next.
<5. In the Email Delivery method page, please choose the correct email
<delivery method. If you need to forward internet email to your ISP
<Smarthost, please input the Smarthost address correctly. If you use DNS to
<route emails, please choose this option.
<
<Note: If you choose to forward emails to the ISP's email server (smart
<host), you need to type the FQDN of the ISP's email server. If your ISP
<provides you the IP address of their email server, for example,
<12.34.56.78, you should type the IP address as "[12.34.56.78]" (without
the
<quotation marks) on the connector's properties page.
<
<6. In the E-mail Retrieval Method page, check the "Use the Microsoft
<Connector for POP3 Mailboxes" check box, click Next.
<7. In the E-mail Domain Name page, enter your registered e-mail Internet
<domain name, (i.e. domain.com).
<Note: Considering the current condition, please input the ISP POP3 email
<domain name (i.e. ISPPOP3Domain.com).
<8. In the POP3 Mailbox Accounts page, click Add and add the appropriate
<POP3 mailbox accounts, then click Next.
<Note: Please delete the POP3 email account in the Outlook client.
<9. Input the correct information in the rest page and finish the wizard.

<Setup server over a year ago - first time ever. Everything working fine

<Hosting company says all is fixed but I have problems with some emails
