Re: Static IP change - no RWW

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I changed it to the available IP address that was sent in the info ***
with the router it is 70.xxx.xxx.xxx.

I ran the CEICW. I also reran the remote access wizard. I did not change
anything. I found where I can edit the DNS record and pointed it to the
Router Gateway address. Did not work. I pointed it to the static IP of the
external NIC. No dice. It is back to pointing to the router gateway IP
address.

I am wondering if I need to get them to get into the router and turn off
NAT. I seen an article that said that NAT on the router can cause problems.
What do you think? Thanks again.

I assume that your WAN NIC on the SBS has a private IP (something like
192.168.10.x). If that's the case nothing has changed as far as the SBS box
is concerned and you do not have to run CEICW again. If you did change the
WAN IP on the SBS you need to run CEICW.

Thanks Claus. I will call them. I just thought about something else. I
did not run the Internet wizard after swapping them out. Think that could
cause a problem also?

They do not use the built in Exchange and they do not have a web site.
They did not want to mess with that even though they paid for it.

Thanks again.

You need to change your DNS records where ever you have your
authoritative records (at the registrar or your ISP) to your new IP
address. You will have at least one A record and one MX record out
there.

Time Warner took over for Adelphia in this area. Now they need to
change the static IP address. They sent a new cable modem with a
different static IP address, etc. pre-programed. I swapped it out and
now no one can access the network from outside.

The VA had me retire and has me pretty heavily medicated and I cannot
remember what to do to make this work. I talked to the guy that takes
care of the web hosting and he does not have anything pointing to the
network. Any idea what I need to fix?

If you type in https://servername.domain.com/remote I get a timed out
message. They can get to the internet from inside the network.

It is an SBS2003 premium network with 2 NICs.

Thanks in advance.

Aaron
