Re: Windows Mobile 5 PPTP VPN problem

Hi Robert,
1) If I use the ip address instead of host names I get the error "the
network path was not found" even if I am on the local lan.
2) My device is the HTC TyTn with WM 5. The older device that works fine is
also an HTC 2020i but it runs WM 2003SE. I do not have other devices to test.
3) I can visit the local lan shares (with names but not with IP). But what
is strange is that it only woks if I set the network card (WiFi) to "The
Internet". If I set the network card to "Work" I get the error: "Cannot
connect with current connection settings".
As you can see the settings on the WM5 are very confusing. Please take any
WM5 device and you will experience the same things.
As I explained earlier my problem is that the user authentication fails when
accessing shares over VPN connection. It is ok on the lan but not over PPTP
VPN connection.
Did you guys ever test such configuration at MS? I am curious to see a
report and a configuration example of such tests.
I've heard friends from other companies that have the same problem. But I
could not find any workaround or fix to the problem.
I hope you can help.
Best regards,
Iulian

Hi Lulian,.
Thanks for posing in our newsgroup.
Please try the following:
1. Try to visit \\ipaddress\users, what's the result?
2. Try to visit the shared folder with another device of the same model,
what's the result?
3. Please visit the share in the LAN, will the same issue occur?
I am looking forward to hear from you.
If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Best regards,
Robert Li(MSFT)
