RE: Performance Report & backup log

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your updating.

I am glad to know the report is correct now after you delete the backup
logs.

Please keep monitoring to see if the problem is completely resolved.

I am looking forward to hear from you.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)

<<Hi Paul,
<<
<<My co-worker has a similar issue. Here is what appears to be happening.
<<
<<When our SBS Backup runs it places the backup log in two locations.
<<One copy is placed at C:\Documents and Settings\SBS Backup User\Local
<<Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data and a second
<<copy is placed at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
<<Server\Support\Backup Logs
<<
<<When the monitoring report runs it grabs the log file from the directory
<<under support. If he looks at the log files in that directory, he will
<<notice that the create date on the files is incorrect and it will match
<the
<<data on the files in the cab file. The backup wizard appears to opening
<<these files and just modifying the contents of the files. It is not
<<deleting the file and recreating it. So the original create date of the
<<file never gets changed. If he deletes the contents of this directory
<<C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Support\Backup
<<Logs and then run a backup he should see that the logs have the correct
<<date and the monitoring report will be correct for a short period of
time.
<
<<The customer could work around the issue by running a script prior to the
<<SBS backup to delete the contents of the C:\Program Files\Microsoft
<Windows
<<Small Business Server\Support\Backup Logs directory. This would work as
<<long as he is getting a daily report in email. The report is fairly
smart
<<only sends the logs that it hasn't already sent out. If he is doing
<<something different like getting a report once a week, he will probably
<<have to create a job that clears out the directory after the report has
<<been sent.
<<
<<In you second reply you said backup produced a log file correctly in
<<c:\program files\windows microsoft small business server\support\backup
<log
<<files folder and also in the C:\Documents and Settings\SBS Backup
<<User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data
<<This file was correct and had the correct date stamp on it. But I suggest
<<you to delete all the old backup logs and try again to see if the problem
<<can be resolved.
<<
<<I am looking forward to hear from you.
<<
<<If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.
