Hello Dustin,
Thanks for posting here.
From your problem description, I understand that you get event error 1000about w3wp.exe and webengine.dll. If I am off base, please do not hesitate
to let me know.
For this issue, as the service dll webengine.dll is crashing, the best way
to troubleshoot this issue is to have a memory dump when the issue is
reproduced. Then, analyze the memory dump and check why the service crashes.
As the newsgroup is not available to deliver the service for memory dump
and debug, you may need to contact our CSS service directly and have
engineer from CSS to troubleshoot this issue directly.
For me, I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this
issue:
Method 1:
If you install .NET Framework 3.0 on your SBS, please uninstalled .NET
Framework 3.0 and done a repair of .NET Framework 2.0
If you install .NET Framework 2.0 on your SBS, switch it to Framework 1.1
1. Open internet information service
2. Expand Web Sites
3. Right click the Default website and click properties
4. In the Asp.Net tab, please choose to use the .Net Framework 1.1.xxxx
instead of 2.0.xxxx
5. Please Perform the same steps on the companyweb web site.
6. Restart the IIS service by using iisreset command
Method 2: Grant NETWORK SERVICE the necessary permissions to access the
ASP.NET registry key
Note: Use this method if you are running ASP.NET on a domain controller. An
advantage of this is that you do not have to create an additional domain
user account that you have to maintain or retain the password for. However,
if you reinstall ASP.NET by using aspnet_regiis or the ASP.NET performance
counters, the permissions on the registry key may be reset.
To grant NETWORK SERVICE the necessary permissions to access the ASP.NET
registry key, follow these steps:
1. Start Registry Editor, and then locate the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ASP.NET_2.0.50727\Names
registry key.
2. Right-click Names, and then click Permissions.
3. Click Add, type NETWORK SERVICE, click Check Names, and then click OK.
4. In the Groups or User Names list, click Advanced.
5. In the Advanced Security Settings for Names dialog box, click the
Permissions tab, click NETWORK SERVICE, and then click Edit.
6. In the Permission Entry for Names dialog box, make sure that NETWORK
SERVICE appears in the Name box.
7. Click to select the following check boxes:
Query Value
Set Value
Create Subkey
Enumerate Subkeys
Notify
Read Control
8. Click OK in all the dialog boxes, and then close Registry Editor.
If you have any questions or concerns related to this issue, please let me
know.
I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)
