Thanks for the info.
I think I will re-build from scratch. We only have 20 users so its not a
massive operation to rebuild the AD and configure the clients again. I have
alot of time to get it all working.
One last thing though, is it possible to have the old 830 running as a
backup when the new 840 is in place?

Hi Jason:.
I feel you pain. :-)
IMHO, you have three choices.
1. Create the new domain from scratch, backup and restore your data, export
and import your exchange data.
very painful. Very!
2. Use a hardware independent imaging product such as shadow protect.
much less painful
3. Use the information you can purchase from www.swingmigration.com
much less painful
the choice between 2 and 3 is sort of "ladies choice" at this point. I have
done both, and both work.
BTW, you cannot install Windows OEM on a new computer, which may further
limit your choice to #3 above.

Hi
Current Setup:
- I have 1 SBS server running as our central server in a 20 client
environment. Backing up is done using Dat27 tapes. It is a dell power
edge
830.
- I have just purchased a power edge 840 with the intention of replacing
the
830 but keeping the 830 it as a backup server should the 840 fail. The
hardware config on each server is different.
- I need to buid the new server in such a way that it is identical in
functionality to the existing one with all the users, exhange details etc.
- The advice I am looking for is what would be the best way to approach
this. I know that I cant simple do a restore from the backup tapes to a
differently configured machine, so how would YOU do it?
If you need any further details, please dont hesitate to ask.
Cheers
Jason
