Re: OT... Smartphone vs Laptop

If you need Excel you need a laptop.

Beancounter rule of 'pick the right tool for the job'.

And "occasional directions to new clients" simply means they need to either go online and get directions from mapquest or something similar or have access to a GPS feature from the smartphone.

Wow, that HTC TyTN looks fantastic!
Is it as easy to integrate that "toy" into the SBS2K3 network as the Treo was?

If so, we may have a winner there.

Roger,

Sure! Although you might want to consider other form factors in addition to the Treo 700 - everybody has their own opinion as to which phone works best for that sort of thing, whether they want to put the phone in a pocket or on a belt, if they like larger or smaller buttons, if they want WiFi, 3G, etc. My favorites have been the K-Jam and now the htc TyTN. If you don't choose Windows Mobile 6 phones, make sure the ones you do choose are upgradable to WM 6 by the OEM as not all of them will be.

Consider this,

A traveling person needs access to:

Excel
Word
Exchange 2003
Occasional directions to a new client

Since I just finished connecting a Treo 700 to my SBS2K3 Server, I’m seeing
the possibilities of rolling many more of these out, instead of a cell phone
and a laptop.

Would you?
