Re: Ping returned wrong ip address

Hello El,

Thank you for posting here. And thanks for Dave and Kj's inputs.

According to your description, I understand that when you ping the laptop
host name, you get the wrong IP address. If I have misunderstood the
problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Based on my research, this mostly relates to the old A record of this host
name in DNS. I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve
this issue:

1. Please join the laptop to SBS domain.

a. Please open Server Management console->Standard Management->Client
Computers, delete the old computer account of the laptop from domain.

b. On the laptop access http://SBSname/connectcomputer/, to join this
computer to SBS domain.

2. Please run the command "ipconfig /registerdns" on the laptop.

Then test this issue. If the issue reoccurs, please go to following steps:

3. Check the A record on SBS DNS for this host name

a. Run "dnsmgmt.msc" command on SBS to open DNS console

b. Extend SBSname->Forward Lookup Zones->domain.local

c. Locate on the Host (A) record of the mylaptop, double click it

d. Modify the IP address from 192.168.16.119 to 192.168.16.125

e. Click OK to finish.

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
