Hi,

I have noticed something strange and different. There might be a
logical explanation that I'm just not aware of :-)

Starting windows on a client on my SBS domain takes longer than on an
Server 2003 domain. It is as if the SBS is more carefully making sure
that the client "get" to the domain.

If you are comparing your SBS network to a "vanilla" W2003 domain, you
probably don't have any group policy stuff configured at all, which will
make a difference. Of course, the speed of the network, the servers, and the
workstations must also be factored in.

While loading XP I'm informed that:

Preparing network connections
Loading computer settings
Loading policies
The above is roughly translated from danish, so it might not be the
correct wording, but I hope you get the picture.

Yep.

After this I get the logon box.

On Server 2003

I presume you mean, logging onto on a regular/non-SBS W2003 domain from a
WinXP Pro workstation?
And this is an entirely different network, right? Different office?
Or.....more detail needed.

I very much faster get the logon box and no
preparing/loading this and that.

The reason why I ask this question is because I would like to have my
Server 2003 domain to work with the same scrutiny as SBS 2003. In
fact I have a client/user on my Server 2003 that is having logon
problem, drive mapping problems and printer mapping problem, which I
hope can be caused by the fast loading of XP or the prevention of the
same.

To investigate the speed issue on SBS, it might be of some use if you would
provide an unedited ipconfig /all from your SBS server and an
SBS-domain-member workstation.
Also, check event logs.
