Thank your for your quick reply.
These are the current A records pointing to the web hosts IP addresses:
ourdomain.com
*.ourdomain.com
www.ourdomain.com
mail.ourdomain.com
MX record:
ourdomain.com ---> mail.ourdomain.com
To make sure we get this right the first time:
1) If we were to create a new A record like rww.ourdomain.com and web server certificate for that name would the URL to connect to RWW be http://rww.ourdomain.com/remote?
2) If we changed the IP address for the current A record for mail.ourdomain.com to our IP address would we then create a new web server certificate for mail.ourdomain.com and the URL for RWW would then be http://mail.ourdomain.com/remote?
In principle, but it should be the https: protocol for access. Don't
forward port 80 anywhere from the router, you don't want http: access
to SBS. That doesn't affect the DNS records, which are as you say.
3) Should the A record using a wildcard *.domain.com be deleted?
If you point it to your SBS IP address, you needn't worry about
making a rww entry. It's probably a good idea, the only thing
you want to externally host is www.
.
We will contact our ISP regarding the PTR record.
