RE: The server denied the (URL). (12202)

Hello Bikini,

Thank you for posting here.

According to your description, I understand that you want to publish a web
site by SBS 2003 with ISA, but you get http error 403 when you try to
access the web site. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

First, please let me know the web site is a SBS built-in web site or it is
a customize web site by yourself?

Scenario 1: If the web site is a SBS built-in web site, or it is a virtual
directory under the Default Web Site we can publish it with CEICW:

This issue occurs if a user types a URL in the Web browser program that
does not match any one of the ISA Server 2000 destination sets. By default,
when the URL does not match any part of the ISA Server destination sets,
only the "Default rule" ISA Server Web publishing rule is applied to the
incoming Web request. The default rule is configured to deny any request.

Note: This issue may affect all the Web sites that you configure in Small
Business Server 2003. For a user to connect to a Web site that is published
by using ISA Server, a Web publishing rule must apply to the user's Web
site request. Additionally, this Web publishing rule must permit the
connection. Because the Web publishing rules that you create by using the
Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard apply to specific
destination sets, requests that do not match any part of these destination
sets are unsuccessful.

To resolve this issue, run the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection
Wizard to configure the firewall, the Web services, and the Web server
certificate. To do this, follow these steps:

1. On the Small Business Server 2003 computer, click Start, and then click
Server Management.
2. Expand Standard Management, and then click To Do List.
3. In the right pane, click Connect to the Internet, and then click Next.
4. On the Connection Type page, click Do not change connection type, and
then click Next.
5. On the Firewall page, click Enable firewall, and then click Next.

Important: Do not click the Do not change firewall configuration option.

6. When you receive the following message, click OK:
To ensure the proper configuration of ISA Server, existing custom packet
filters will be disabled. For information on how to re-enable existing
packet filters, see Small Business Server Help.
7. On the Services Configuration page, click to select the check boxes of
the additional services that you want to make available from the Internet,
and then click Next.
8. On the Web Services Configuration page, click Allow access to only the
following Web site services from the Internet, click to select the check
boxes of the services and of the Web sites that you want to make accessible
from the Internet, and then click Next.
9. On the Web Server Certificate page, click Create a new Web server
certificate, type the Small Business Server computer's fully qualified
domain name in the Web server name box, and then click Next.

Important: The fully qualified domain name that you type in the Web server
name box must be the same name that you use to connect to the Web site from
the Internet. For example, if the URL that you use to connect to a
Microsoft Outlook Web Access Web site is https://mail.contoso.com/exchange,
type mail.contoso.com in the Web server name box.

10. On the Internet E-mail page, click Do not change Internet e-mail
configuration, and then click Next.
11. On the Completing the Configure E-mail and Internet Connection Wizard
page, view the configuration information to make sure that it is correct,
and then click Finish.

Scenario 2: If the web site is a customize web site by yourself, or you
place the web site on internal computer, we can publish the web site by
create an ISA 2004 web publishing rule:

How to configure Web publishing rules to host multiple Web sites with host
headers in ISA Server
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=838252

If we can not resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:

1. Where do you place the web site, on SBS or internal computer?

2. Can you access the web site from internal client?

3. What is edition of your ISA server?

4. Please help to gather the ISA Info and ISA log:

For ISA 2004:

1. Gather the ISA Info:

1) Download the file from the following URL:

http://www.isatools.org/tools/isainfo.zip

2) Extract all files to a folder on ISA server.

3) Double click Isainfo.js. This will generate 2 files
ISAInfo2004-<computer-name>.log and ISAInfo2004-<computer-name>.xml in the
current folder.

4) Please send these files to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

2. Gather the ISA logs:

1) Schedule a down time.

2) Open ISA 2004 management console.

3) Expand the server node and highlight 'Monitoring'.

4) In the right pane, switch to the 'Logging' tab, make sure the 'Task
Pane' is showed there.

5) In the 'Task Pane', click 'Configure Firewall Logging' under 'Logging
Tasks', and then switch the 'log storage format' from 'MSDE database'
(default) to 'File'.

6) Switch to the 'Fields' tab, click 'Select All', and then click OK.

7) In the 'Task Pane', click 'Configure Web Proxy Logging' under 'Logging
Tasks', and then switch the 'log storage format' from 'MSDE database'
(default) to 'File'.

8) Switch to the 'Fields' tab, click 'Select All', and then click OK.

9) Click 'Apply' to save changes and update the configuration.

10) Temporarily disable the Firewall service. To do that, please click
Monitoring | Services tab, and then right click 'Microsoft Firewall' to
choose 'Stop'.

11) Clear the current existing W3C logs. To do that, go to the log saving
directory and clean any existing .W3C logs. By default, the logs will be
saved to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server\ISALogs'. (Some MDF may not
be able to deleted, that's normal.) You may backup them first and then
delete them.

12) Go back to the ISA 2004 management console, and then Start the stopped
'Microsoft Firewall' service.

13) Reproduce the problem, stop the service, and then gather the resulting
W3C files to me for analysis.

14) Please also let me know the IP address of the testing clients so that I
can filter the data.

For ISA 2000:

1. Please help to gather the ISA Info:

1) Visit www.isatools.org. Click ''ISAinfo for ISA 2000''.

2) Run the script isainfo.vbe on the SBS server.

3) Send the ISAinfo log files to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

2. Please also help to gather the ISA logs:

1) Open ISA Management console, navigate to 'Monitoring
Configuration'\'Logs'. In the right panel, right-click 'Packet filters' and
choose 'Properties'.

2) In the 'Fields' tab, select ALL log fields. Also enable all the log
fields for 'ISA Server Firewall service' and 'ISA Server web proxy service'
log. Navigate to 'Monitoring'\'Services', restart the ISA related services.

3) After reproducing the problem, gather the recent log files in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft ISA Server\ISAlogs\ folder and send them to me for further
research.

Hope these steps will give you some help.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)
