Re: Sending mail to Domain User who does not have an Exchange Mailbox

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Set them up with an Exchange mailbox, and then allow them to download their
email via POP3 or IMAP just like they are doing with their personal mail
accounts (yahoo, gmail, etc). The only thing you need to do is to enable the
POP3 or IMAP service on your SBS server.

Simple and clean.

How can we configure our Exchange Server to send mail to some Domain Users
who do NOT have a Mailbox on our SBS server, and to include these users in
some of our Distribution Groups?

We have several employees who always work in a separate building in a
different part of town. They must have a Domain User account in order to
access our companyweb and to log on both locally and remotely occasionally
to
access resources. However, they do not have an Exchange Mailboxe on our
SBS,
since it is more efficient for them to download their email directly from
a
third party email server.

The problem is that their email address is username@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, and
every attempt by a local user to send them an email results in a failure,
with the following error message: A configuration error in the e-mail
system
caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded
between
two recipients.

(We also need to maintain the ability for a local user to send email to a
few other domain users who do not have a Mailbox on our SBS server, but
have
an email address that is different: username@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Our
current
setup allows this.)

Here are a few more details on our current setup:
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server SP1
Exchange Server 2003 SP3
Our fully qualified domain name is: DomainName.com
The name of our Microsoft Exchange server is: ServerName.DomainName.local
Our SmallBusiness SMTP connector is set to: Forward all mail through this
connector to the following smart hosts: NameOfThirdPartyMailServer
Local bridgeheads is: ServerName with Default SMTP Virtual Server
We download incoming mail from a third party email server, so there are no
issues with incoming mail.

We would greatly appreciate assistance with this challenge.
