Re: SATA RAID/Exchange Problem - Server Unresponsive

New driver didn't work.

Replaced Mainboard. Same problem.
Replaced SATA Cables. Same Problem.

Run Eseutil on Exchange Store on different computer - all okay
Moved Exchange Store to different partion on same RAID - problem appears
resolved. (Couldn't use IDE drive as O?S wouldn't boot and IBM advise this
was an unsupported configuration - IDE is only for CD drive).

Drives still show as 'okay' but one drive must be faulty and/or have faults
on partition where Exchange store was located, hence server grinding to a
halt.

IBM is arranging replacement drives.

I guess that faulty drives in a SATA RAID do not necessarily show up like
they do in a SCSI RAID.

Server has now been running 24 hours.

Updated this in case anyone has similar problems.

Thanks for those who contributed.

IBM X206SS, 1.5Gb ram, SBS2003. Free physical ram over 300Mb. Controller
is the onboard Adaptec SATA (called ServRAID 7e). 2 x 160Gb drives.

Nothing changed except for Windows Updates.

Have swapped cables, etc. Still problem occurring but only if Exchange is
running.

Have had the server running for over 4 hours, with no Exchange services
running. No problems. Started Exchange services and within 15 minutes
the server becomes unresponsive.

Have run IBM Diagnostics and sent this through to IBM. Nothing found.

IBm have just advised of another 'new' driver to try. Will keep this post
informed.

Am having a problem with an IBM Server with SATA RAID - the Information
Store is killing the server.

Server is no longer connected to the network. If Store service is
disabled the server has no problems and runs fine. When it is enabled
there are Event ID 9 /aarich errors which appear that eventually cause
the server to grind to a halt (although processor, ram, HDD space
doesn't change). The server just becomes unresponsive.

The server has been running fine for 15 months now and this just started
last week. Have installed latest updates, drivers, BIOS, etc - still no
go. IBM is yet to find a solution

Once there are several of these errors in the Event Log you can no
longer stop the Information Store Service (hangs in Stopping status).

Will be attempting to move the Exchange database across to an IDE drive
as a test/temporary solution. If all runs well then must be a problem
with the SATA Controller and the database size of 6Gb.

Not much to go on in your post, what specific Server, what specific RAID
controller, what specific drives, how much RAM in the server, how much
FREE RAM, how much in SWAP, what have you changed in the last 2 months...

I have a BUNCH of IBM 226, 3400, 3800 servers, no problems with the SAS
drives in any of them.
