RE: SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard Bomb

Hello Customer,

Thank you for kind update.

Please understand that our newsgroup is an issue based service, meaning we
usually respond to one question/issue per post. This will lessen the
confusion for both of us, as well as ensure that our results are accurate
and not a result of a test for a different question. Therefore, I will work
with you on the WSS question in this post. Regarding the additional
question (backup and OWA issue), I suggest you create a new post for
getting more quick assistance.

Are you running .Net Framework 2.0 now? If so, open the IIS management
snap-in and change the .Net Framework back to 1.1.4322. To do so:

1. Go to the properties of companyweb.
2. Go to the ASP.NET tab.
3. On the ASP.NET version select the drop-down and change from the
2.0.50727 to 1.1.4322.
4. Apply and close out the properties.

Try to browse http://companyweb again and see how it geos.

If you want to run companyweb on ASP.NET 2.0.50727 you will need to run the
following sharepoint command:

stsadm.exe -o upgrade -forceupgrade -url http://companyweb

Refer to the following Knowledge Base article for more information:

894903 You receive a "The Windows SharePoint Services virtual server has
not been configured for use with ASP.NET 2.0.xxxxx.0" error message when
you connect to the home page of a Windows SharePoint Services Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=894903

If running this command does not fix the issue, then you will need to
confirm that your WSS is actually at SP2.

1. Start SharePoint Central Administration.

2. Under "Virtual Server Configuration" on the Windows SharePoint Services
Central Administration page, click "Configure virtual server settings".

3. Under "Version" on the Virtual Server List page, note the version number
that is listed for the virtual server, and then use one of the following
methods, depending on your situation:

The version numbers are listed as follows:

- 6.0.2.5530 is the version number of the virtual server in the original
release version of Windows SharePoint Services.

- 6.0.2.6361 is the version number of the virtual server in Windows
SharePoint Services Service Pack 1 (SP1).

- 6.0.2.6411 is the version number of the virtual server in Windows
SharePoint Services that has the security update installed that is
described in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

887981 MS05-006: Vulnerability in Windows SharePoint Services and
SharePoint Team Services could allow cross-site scripting and spoofing
attacks
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=887981

- 6.0.2.6568 is the version number of the virtual server in Windows
SharePoint Services Service Pack 2 (SP2).

If the version number is less than 6.0.2.6568, the virtual server is not at
SP2.

Go to our Microsoft site and download the WSS SP2. After installing it try
to access companyweb.

If the issue persists, please gather the following info and send them to
v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx for research.

IIS Metabase.

a. Download the IIS Resource Kit tools from the following page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=56FC92EE-A71A-4C73-
B628-ADE629C89499&displaylang=en
b. Install it, run MBExplorer (Metabase Explorer)
c. Right click the "LM" node and choose "Export to file".
d. Specify a file name, specify the password and finish the export.
e. Send the file and the password to v-bpeng@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Terrence--
|
| Thank you for your prompt reply. Unfortunately I can no longer access
| SharePoint Central Administration (or any other of my http://localhost/
| sites). I continue to be able to access http://companyweb without
problem
| but my //localhost/exchange is HTTP 404 not found while
//localhost/backup
| and/remote are HTTP 403 Forbidden access is denied.
|
| For SharePoint Central Administration I receive a red "Server Application
| Unavailable." I believe my problems resulted from improperly extending
the
| virtual servers AND also changing ASP.NET 1.1 to 2.0 on several.
Obviously
| changing them back is problematic. I also followed KB894903 to attemp to
use
| stsadm but it bombed on me (kept asking for more and more parameters).
|
| I appreciate your help. Seeking a solution obviously made it worse.
