Hi Robert,
Thanks for your reply. So installing SQL WGE 2005 on my C drive and locating the data files on the raid 5 array is the way to go ? Many thanks.
Regards Colin.

Hi Colin,
Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
The major difference in performance between RAID 1 and RAID 5 is that RAID
5 experiences heavy write overhead because additional parity data has to be
created and written to the array. This is overhead that RAID 1 does not
experience. Because of this, write performance on RAID 1 is generally much
faster than RAID 5.
SQL log files, by their nature, are mostly written to, which means that
often RAID 1 is your best choice for performance. And then you need to
locate the data files on RAID 5 which has better security.
Hope the information helps.
If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know
Best regards,
Robert Li(MSFT)

<Hi all,
<
<I am installing a new SBS 2003 R2 box for a client. The server has 2
arrays,
<raid 1 for the OS (2 x 80GB partitioned as C-25 GB and E-remainder) and a
<raid 5 (3 x 250GB + hot spare setup as 1 500GB partition) for the data. I
am
<comfortable installing SBS but SQL is not my speciality. During install of
<SQL WGE 2005, what is the recommended procedure ? Should I choose to
install
<it on the data drive or install in the root of C and relocate databases
etc
<? Any help on this would be appreciated.
