Re: vpn connection to exchange server

Hi,

Thanks for updating.

To add entry in the HOSTS file, please do the following:

1. Open %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc folder.
2. Double click HOST, and then choose open with Notepad.
3. Input the following and save:

internal_ip_of_your_SBS_server your_SBS_server_FQDN
internal_ip_of_your_SBS_server your_SBS_server_name

For example:

192.168.16.2 sbsserver
192.168.16.2 sbsserver.sbs.local

4. Then please try again.

I noticed you couldn't ping the SBS server in the main office, so I suggest
you may refer to the following steps to check TCP/IP settings on the
problematic VPN client:

Enable the Use Default Gateway on Remote Network setting in the VPN dial-up
connection item on the client computer
==================
1. Double-click My Computer, and then click the Network and Dial-up
Connections link.
2. Right-click the VPN connection that you want to change, and then click
Properties.
3. Click the Networking tab, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the
Components checked are used by this connection list, and then click
Properties.
4. Click Advanced, and then make sure the Use default gateway on remote
network check box is ticked.
5. Click OK, click OK, and then click OK.
6. Restart the computer and then test this issue again.

In addition, if VPN connection is established, you will get IP :

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.16.25
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.16.25
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
Primary WINS Server . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

The Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.255, that's by default.

Hope the information helps.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,

Robert Li(MSFT)
