Terrence--
Thank you for your prompt reply. Unfortunately I can no longer access
SharePoint Central Administration (or any other of my http://localhost/
sites). I continue to be able to access http://companyweb without problem
but my //localhost/exchange is HTTP 404 not found while //localhost/backup
and/remote are HTTP 403 Forbidden access is denied.
For SharePoint Central Administration I receive a red "Server Application
Unavailable." I believe my problems resulted from improperly extending the
virtual servers AND also changing ASP.NET 1.1 to 2.0 on several. Obviously
changing them back is problematic. I also followed KB894903 to attemp to use
stsadm but it bombed on me (kept asking for more and more parameters).
I appreciate your help. Seeking a solution obviously made it worse.

Hello Customer,.
Thank you for posting here.
According to your description, I understand that you get error "Most likely
this virtual server is not extended with WSS v2" when you run prescan.exe
tool. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me
know.
Based on my research, this issue occurs when the Windows SharePoint
Services 2.0 configuration database is corrupted.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint
3.0 Central Administration.
2. On the SharePoint Central Administration Web page and create a new
configuration database.
3. For each virtual server that was extended, click Configure Virtual
Server Settings, select Remove Windows Sharepoint Services from Virtual
Server, and remember to keep the existing content databases.
4. Re-extend the virtual server by using a blank content database
5. Under Manage Content Databases, remove the blank content DB, and then
add the existing content database.
Meanwhile, I suggest you perform the steps in the following document to
install WSS 2.0 and 3.0 side by side:
Installing Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Server Running Windows
Small Business Server 2003
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0daafc81-efff-4f5b-
a28a-8265f1e99f5b&displaylang=en
If we can not resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Please capture screenshots on the error messages and send the pictures
to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Use the MPS report utility to capture the Server logs and configurations:
a. Download MPS report tool from:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE
b. Run the MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.exe on the server box.
c. Wait for 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows explorer, navigate to
%SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Setup\Reports\cab\
e. Send the .cab file to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| I am running SBS r2 and attempting to install WSS 2.0 and 3.0 side by
side.
|
| I have installed SharePoint 3.0 which gives me the prescan tool which
gives
| me an error and causes the Wizard to crash on Step 2 of 10.
|
| The problem appears to be in this virtual server, which prescan says is
not
| extended: the prescan error is as follows:
| Most likely this virtual server is not extended with WSS v2.
|
| This is in reference to one of my virtual servers, which appears as
follows:
| Microsoft SharePoint Administration http://klserver:3101/ 6.0.2.8117 Not
| Administrable
|
| How can I extend this virtual server if it is not administrable? How can
I
| get a clean prescan so I can continue with the 3.0 wizard?
|
| I was asked to post in SBS 2003 instead of SharePoint & SBS's unique
| problem. I was following the White Paper, trying to complete the Wizard,
| when it bombed.
