Thanks for taking the time again Cris
The test account is on the Exchange 2003 (SBSR2) server on the local domain
and the client is coonected on that subnet (two network cards). The POP3
service is now started and running (as well as being enabled for that
account). !$%$$^ I thought my original post was quite descriptive - but your
right I did not specify where the connection to the client was from.

The user may have the protocol enabled...and does by default I believe..
BUT
The actual POP3 Server (not to be confused with the POP3 Connector for
Exchange) which lets you connect with Outlook Express, or Eudora, or
whatever Pop3 mail client.
Let's clarify something first before we go further
Are both email accounts held on the Exchange Server? Or is this "test
account" on a server outside the domain? (at some ISP, etc)

Thanks for taking the time to respond Cris
But I'm trying to connect via either POP3 or IMAP4 - the Properties of the
user says that both are enabled with default settings (as mentioned
below)-
Is there a kb article that shows how to enable them if the indication for
the
user property is meaninless?

Hi Costas
thank you for taking the time to reply - I've tried changing the server
name
entry - any variation including the one you suggests give a rejected
message
- eg Server = nonsenseName.local - so I believe the server name is the
one
right thing I have!!
Its looking like a port issue...

From your posting I see that the servername is set to the domain name.
Try
the fully qualified name of the server: <name>.<myDomain.local>.. See
if
that works

Hi
(My apologies if this post occurs twice: the web page exited with an
error
on post)
I have a client <myClient> logged on to <mySBSR2Server> on
<myDomain.local>
it collects and send emails. I have an additional program
<myMailProcess.exe>
which I would like to run to connect to <myTestAccount> and download
emails
from its mail box. Properties Exchange features of <myTestAccount>
tell
me
that both POP3 and IMAP4 are enable using protocol defaults.
The program <myMailProcess.exe> requires the following to connect:
Server: (currently <myDomain.local>)
I suspect this is correct because it gives an "operation timed out"
error -
with any other variation giving "Connection rejected error"
User (currently <myTestAccount>)
Password (currently <myTestAccount>)
Port currently 110
Any suggestion please?

Many thanks in advance

Ian
