Re: Intercept DNS request

As Cris says add an internal DNS A record and that should do it.

A new A (host) record will be fully qualified to the domain of the zone in
which it is created. You'd need to create a new zone for the domain
(flowers.com in this example) and then create your A record there. This
would efeectivly break any communications with that domain unless you pulled
real records from the real SOA. But perhaps this is what you want to happen
anyway.

Sorry for not being clear, im trying to point them to an internal
address. So to the rest of the internet; flowers.com would go to
187.x.x.x, but to the internal people on the network, it points to an
internal address of 10.x.x.x Is this possible on sbs? I can do this
in the hosts file per pc, but that just seems like to much work.

Thanks

Is there an actual internal site called flowers.com that you want
them to see? Or are you trying to block all access to flowers.com
from internal? You're still not fully describing what the purpose
of this redirection is suppossed to be.

Yeah, i already did all that, and have that setup, i was just
wondering if there was any options for rules where sbs could take a
request and change it just for the internal lan people. Kinda like
what you can do in a hosts file, where you can say flowers.com ->
127.0.0.1

Thanks for all your help!

When you ran the Connect to Email and Internet Wizard from the To

was
to specify the IP addresses of your ISPs DNS servers. These are
then set
up in your internal DNS server as "DNS Forwarders" and any request
from a
workstation or server not bound for a destination on your LAN
(domainname.local) will be forwarded to those DNS servers for
resolution.

If i have my sbs setup as the primary dns server in the network,
and all the workstations are running off of it, what would be
the best way
for certain dns request's be pointed to other addresses. Ex. If
one of
the work stations typed in flowers.com it would be redirected to
a different site / address.

Thanks

Quick question, what would be a good way to to have sbs
intercept an
internal dns request for; lets say cable.com and respond with
with a
different ip?

Thanks
