Re: Connect the SBS to a remote IIS for Internet Printing

Hi,

1. The network topology is

Remote office:
[Computer]\
+<------------------>[Router]<-------------
[Internet]
[Computer]/

Main office:
[Computer]<---->[SBS server]<------->[Internet]

2. Yes, the server can access the Internet with no problems at all. I
tried the rules and it work as before them, everything fine.

3. After I open the page http://<ip address>/printers I choose the
printer I want to connect, then from the left pane I choose Connect,
then the page asks me if I want to add a connection to the printer
http://<ip address>/printers/POS/.printer, I answer yes, a bar starts
Checking network connection, and after a few seconds it says The
printer was not installed in this computer.

If a do the exact same thing on one of the network computers it adds
the printer with no problem, and I can print. I think I cannot
installed on the server (which I need).

I sent you the files you asked for your e-mail.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in newsgroup.

Before we go ahead, I would like to confirm the following things:

1. The network topology is as bellow, is that correct?

[Internet Client] <---> [SBS Server] <--->[Internet] <---> [Internal
Internet Printing Server]

2. Can the SBS Server visit Internet successfully?

Based on my experience, the problem is cause by the configuration of ISA.
Please take the following steps to narrow down this issue:

Please open the ISA management console, navigate to Firewall Policy, right
click "Firewall Policy" and click New->Access Rule, then create a new
access rule as following:

Rule name: Allow http
Rule Action: Allow
Protocols: http
Sources: Local Host
Destination: External
User Sets: All Users

Then move this rule to the top and click Apply to save all the settings and
try again.

If that doesn't work, please create the following rule and try again.

Rule name: Test
Rule Action: Allow
Protocols: All Outbound Traffic
Sources: Local Host
Destination: External
User Sets: All Users

Please also help me gather the ISA info and ISA log. We need to check the
other settings on ISA. Thanks for your time and cooperation.

1. Please help to gather the ISA Info:

1) Download the file from the following
URL:http://www.isatools.org/isainfo/ISAInfo.zip
2) Extract all files to a folder on ISA server.
3) Double click Isainfo.js. This will generate 2 files
ISAInfo2004-<computer-name>.log and ISAInfo2004-<computer-name>.xml in the
current folder.
4) Please send these files to me.

2. Please also help to gather the ISA logs:

1) Schedule a down time.
2) Open ISA 2004 management console.
3) Expand the server node and highlight 'Monitoring'.
4) In the right pane, switch to the 'Logging' tab, make sure the 'Task
Pane' is showed there.
5) In the 'Task Pane', click 'Configure Firewall Logging' under 'Logging
Tasks', and then switch the 'log storage format' from 'MSDE database'
(default) to 'File'.
6) Switch to the 'Fields' tab, click 'Select All', and then click OK.
7) In the 'Task Pane', click 'Configure Web Proxy Logging' under 'Logging
Tasks', and then switch the 'log storage format' from 'MSDE database'
(default) to 'File'.
8) Switch to the 'Fields' tab, click 'Select All', and then click OK.
9) Click 'Apply' to save changes and update the configuration.
10) Temporarily disable the Firewall service. To do that, please click
Monitoring | Services tab, and then right click 'Microsoft Firewall' to
choose 'Stop'.
11) Clear the current existing W3C logs. To do that, go to the log saving
directory and clean any existing .W3C logs. By default, the logs will be
saved to 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server\ISALogs'. (Some MDF
may not be able to deleted, that's normal.) You may backup them first and
then delete them.
12) Go back to the ISA 2004 management console, and then start the stopped
'Microsoft Firewall' service.
13) Reproduce the problem, stop the service, and then gather the resulting
W3C files to me for analysis.

3. Error message in IE when you visit http://<ip address>/printers on SBS.

Please send the inforamton to v-robeli@xxxxxxxxxxxx with subject:

I am looking forward to hear from you.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

<Hi,
<Here´s the scenario: I have a customer with a SBS2003 anda remote
<office, on that office I have two computers, onde running Win2K and
<the other WinXP Pro SP2. In this last one I installed the component
<Internet Printing from IIS. This two computers are connected to teh
<Internet via a router (ADSL connection).
<If I connect from another computer on the Internet to this WinXP via
<http://<ip address>/printers and then add the printer from the connect
<option it works. I tried to do the same thing from the SBS server but
<it seems that ISA2004 is blocking the communication. I went to the ISA
<logs and find this error: A packet generated on the local host was
<rejected because its source IP address is assigned to one network
<adapter and its destination IP address is reachable through another
<network adapter.
<I tried to do the same thing again but from a computer inside the
<SBS2003 network and it works fine. I really need to install the
<printer not on the inside computers but on the server.
<Thanks in advance for any help.
