Re: Change Domain Name or ?????

Hi E,

You don't need to change anything. You mistakedly got everything right ;-). CEICW will generate the SSL cert for whatever name you want to give it - you just have to get the domain registrar to create an additional A record for you for, say, server.mycompany.com (just like your www A record), and use that for remote access and and your certificate name.

Or, perhaps you already have an MX record, which will use an A record like mail.mycompany.com - you can use that if you like.

I have a client running SBS 2003 R2. When the machine was set up the client
did not plan to use the domain name for a website (this of course has now
changed). The client now has a website (NOT hosted on the SBS box). Here is
the configuration.

SBS domain name mycompany.local
Email domain name mycompany.com (hosted on the SBS Server)
website domain www.mycompany.com (hosted at a web farm)

We have gotten around the external DNS issue by having them do OWA, RWW and
Sharepoint via the static IP. Now the client wants to use Mobile 5. This
means that I will need to get a thrid party certificate for the SBS box. No
problem as I can get the certificate for just mycompany.com and not
www.mycompany.com. My concern is that the how would I get external DNS to
point to the server while still keeping the website up outside that box?

Can I easily get a solution or will I have to change the domain name of the
local server so I can issue a certificate to it and point the entire new
domain at the server? What will this do to the email on the server if
anything? If you need more info let me know. Thanks to everyone ahead of
time. ejm
