Re: Fax (re)install fails

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi,
To answer your questions - this build was a simultaneous migration/upgrade
from an existing SBS2K server, done over a year and a half ago, (SBS SP1
upgrade done 8 months ago), so I use the SBS "Upgrade" disk to do the fax
install. Could this be the issue? I do use the actual Administrator account.
I will need to reconfirm the modem settings, but I am pretty sure it is
fine, as it was used for many months to connect to the internet.

Everything else works fine. I had thought a reinstall would certainly fix
the fax problem, (but am not sure if I could do a reinstall, given that the
build is a migration). In any case, I will plug away a little longer.

Again, many thanks. Catherine

kj,
Thanks for the info. I did indeed have a similar error early last
year. I applied the fix. Fax still would not install. I then tracked
down suggested fix to rebuild security database, which I did, (I
think correctly).

Your error log looks susbtantially the same to me. Was this a plain jane SBS
build - nothing out of the ordinary, no upgrade from SBS2K, install into
existing domain, nothing like that? Also are you using *the* administrator
account, not a rename or such? Oh, and your modem is already installed with
the "Location Information" (Country, Area Code, Dialing rules...) set?

I've not many more ideas about it. The error log doesn't tell me much about
what the problem might be. If this is the only issue you have I'd think
about burning the money for a PSS / CSS call to Microsoft rather thatn a
rebuild for just one issue.

Fax still won't reinstall, but this is the new errorlog listing:

I was wondering if you had any other suggestions.
In any case - thanks very much - I feel I am moving ahead.

Hi,
I have been getting Event ID 32061, "Fax Service failed to read the
delivery notification configuration, possibly due to registry
corruption or a lack of system resources. Reinstall the fax
component. Win32 error code: 2." for over a year. But I never paid
attention because we were not using Fax services. (When I click on
Fax from Mgmt Console, I get Snap In failed to initialize.)

We would now like to start using Fax Services. When I try to
reinstall Fax Services
using detailed directions found on this board, I get consistent
failure. Details here:
I rename keys/files and uninstall Windows component, (this seems to
be successful). Then I go to Change/Remove Windows SBS 2003, and
choose Install. Install starts, requests SBS 2K3 Disc 1 set up
disk, (which I provide), then fails with message: "An error
occurred while installing Fax Services. Rerun setup..."

Error log is (always) as follows:

I've tried reinstall repeatedly over last months with no success. My
only thought now is to reinstall SBS2003 in its entirety, but that
seems drastic. Is there anything else?

Thanks,
Catherine Allen

I suggest verifying the settings in this document before considering
a complete re-install.

It fixed an issue I came across recently.
