I've not looked at the various options for what file formats are
"recognized" when running the CEICW wizard, but if you have the file...it
should be simply a matter of running the wizard...when you get to the part
where its asking about the cert...just point to the file.
So for those folks that are outside the LAN...it takes 30 seconds to install
the self signed cert and its a 1 time deal and all done.
Spending the extra money was better?
To me, no it wasn't the worth the money. But it wasn't expensive - $48
for three years, so no great shakes.
Every one of our users is LAN-based, so there's no need to use OWA.
That is, every one except the company owner / managing director. He
too is office-based but he travels around a lot, and frequently needs
to access email from airports and internet cafes etc. without a
laptop. So for the sake for $16/year to avoid the annoying security
nags it made sense .
Back to the question...running the CEICW, it complains if you haven't
started the IIS Wizard. I just wasn't sure if I could simply start the
wizard and create a certificate request, then completely ignore the
certificate request and simply import the certificate. Won't I have
lost the private key?
