Hi,
I'maftersome advice with regards to transitioning SBS to a full Win 2003
Server installation.
I'm currently running a 2003 (SP1) SBS, and I have purchased thetransition
media and appropriate number of CAL's to suit the installation. I do not
actually want to run thetransitionpackon the SBS server, due to a number
of reasons beyond the scope of this question, but would ratherreinstallWindows2003 Server and Exchange from scratch. I have purchased the required
media for these two components to allow me to do a fresh installtion.
My question is; when installingWindows2003 Server what product key do I
need to provide? I have tried using the one on the sticker inside the SBStransitioncase I purchased but this is not accepted as valid when installing
the server. Do I need to use the original SBS key or do I need to go back to
Microsoft and ask for a new key to be issued. If so, how would I go about
contacting them?
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this question so would be
grateful for any assistance given.
Many Thanks,
Phil
This may be too late, But there is a solution. I just did this for a
customer. Microsoft states that the transition pack entitles the
customer to the full retail versions of the products, they simply do
not provide the media or keys for installation with the transition
pack
You will need to call Microsoft Retail Supplemental and Replacement
parts at 800-360-7561 Explain what your doing, they will ask you for
the product ID of your Windows 2003 Server installation and send you
the appropriate CD's and product keys.
Here are the part #'s to ask for
Windows 2003 Server - P73-00008
Exchange Server - 312-02609
SQL Server - 228-02221
ISA Server E84-00664
The CD's will cost about $30 each after shipping and handling.
Hope that makes your day better - Frank
