Hi John,
Thanks for posting in our newsgroup.
From you description, I know that your SBS 2003 reset itself. If I amoff-base, please don't hesitate to let me know.
First, the server reset itself and now it works OK now. To find out the
root cause, we will need memory dumps. Due to the technical limit of our
public newsgroup, Please call CSS for more help.
II researched your logs and found before restart, MSExchangeDSAccess had
errors, unable to find DC and name resolution. Based on my research, I'd
like to give you the following ideas:
Step 1: Disable all 3rd party services. The problem may be caused by third
party software.
1. Click Start->Run...->type msconfig and press Enter.
2. Click Services tab and select Hide All Microsoft Services and Disable
All third party Services.
3. Click Startup tab and Disable All startup items.
4. Click OK and choose Restart.
5. After reboot, check whether the problem still occurs.
6. If there are no more problems, please use the above steps to enable
services and startup items one by one in order to figure out the root cause
of this issue.
Step 2: Make sure your antivirus software to exclude the Exchange directory
structure from file-level scanning. Please also check the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\VirusScan
And selected the following and changed the value to 0 BackgroundScanning
Enabled ProactiveScanning
Step 3: Checked default SMTP Virtual Server Properties.
To do this:
1. Open Exchange Management.
2. Expand to Domain(Exchange)'Servers'Servername'Protocols'SMTP' Default
SMTP Virtual Server.
3. Right click Default SMTP Virtual Server and select properties.
4. On the General tab, make sure IP address is set to (All Unassigned).
Hope the information helps.
If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Best regards,
Robert Li(MSFT)
