Hi Customer,
Thanks for posting here.
From the description, I understand the issue is that you just see Word docin new menu, If I am off base, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Let us refer to the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Before going ahead, would you please let me know which item you want to add
in the New menu? In addition, By default, there is no Word application
installed on SBS server, How can you see Word doc? Do you install office on
SBS server?
The following are some general information regarding add items in the New
menu.
All the options in the right click->New menu are stored in the registry,
when you right click on the desktop and click New, Windows will search for
the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Discard
able\PostSetup\ShellNew
This key contains all the options. In fact, Windows collects the
information from ShellNew key for each file extension (.bmp, .txt, .wav).
For example, the new application for .wav file is stored in the following
registry key.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav\ShellNew
To add an item to the New menu, you can manually add the ShellNew for the
file association.
NOTE: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall Windows. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems
resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use
Registry Editor at your own risk. I suggest that you first backup the
registry key before you modify it. To learn know to manage registry, please
refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
For your reference, I have included some samples below. Here, I assume that
you want to add a batch file (.bat) to the New menu.
1. Associate the desired extension with the application (if it is not set
already).
2. Run Regedit, open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and find the Extension (in this case
..bat)
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bat
3. Select the Extension Key (in this case .bat) and choose Edit, New and
select Key
4. Type "ShellNew" (without the quotation marks) in the box
5. Select ShellNew under the Extension, choose Edit, New and select String
value
6. Type "Nullfile" (without the quotation marks) in the box and leave the
value as empty.
7. Exit Regedit and right click on the desktop. You should see your new
item on the New menu.
Hope it helps.
I appreciate your time. I am happy to be of assistance and look forward to
your reply.
Have a nice day!
Best regards,
Jacky Luo (MSFT)
