Hey cool, I've got a couple of your books!
I'll go with the swing then - thanks.

I've done it on a couple of systems that had gotten flakey. It's a nice way to do a thorough "purge" of the system, while preserving your important stuff.

"William Paris" <williamparis@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:eY0Ed8HkHHA.4248@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI've done some research so I think I'll answer my own question.
The System state is a copy of all of the security settings, user accounts and directory services. So, if that's the case then the registry corruption won't come over.
If anyone has anything to add then please do, otherwise I'm going to go investigate this Swing Migration kit as it covers DR scenarios like this one.

William

Since I'm having problems with my SBS 2k3 SP1 server (won't recognize any network drivers including the loopback) I've decided that the best option (and perhaps the quickest) is to install a clean build of SBS 2k3 SP1 on the machine in question. I've backed up the system state, the exchange store and the relevent iis stuff.
If the corruption in my current install is in the registry will the the restore of my system state to the clean build recreate this problem again? From what I understand the system state backup is a backup of the entire hive - is this correct?
Really the only things I want to restore is the AD Domain, Exchange site and store, Sharepoint and the www.
Thoughts would be appreciated.
Regards,
William
