Re: SBS2003 & Trend Micro

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Fantastic. That worked a treat (slight amendment to your instructions -
append ".exe" to the command line, otherwise it tries to run a 16-bit .PIF
file ?)

I agree that in the case of the Trend management console, where it's
accessed via the lan - SSL doesn't serve much purpose. But you can get it to
work by adding the URL to the trusted sites zone.

When installing clients via the lan, the best way by far is via autopcc.exe.
There is a share created for \\<servername>\ofcscan, and autopcc.exe is at
that location.

So, from a workstation, run \\<servername>\ofcscan\autopcc and the
installation will run. A side advantage is that the workstation is
pre-scanned for malware.

Note that this method cannot be used remotely (over an RDP connection). If
you must install the client via remote session, then you must use the
http(s): method. This relies heavily on Active-X, and that's why security
settings (trusted site) must be right.

One other method is to add the \\servername\ofcscan\autopcc line to the SBS
login script - then when users log onto the workstation the installation
will run automatically. A disadvanage of this method is that if the
installer runs when the product is already installed, then it can cause the
trend client to malfunction. So if you use this method, use it to install
the clients all at once, and then disable the line.

First XP Home can't join the Domain to be managed by the console. Second
you probably accepted a default install which uses SSL. The easiest
solution is to reinstall Custom and deselect SSL which is not needed.

Hi all,

After seeing responses from previous questions I note that many SBSers
use
Trend Micro so I've downloaded and installed the evaluation. It's happily
protecting Exchange now. However I have a problem with getting client PCs
to
install it.

I have emailed myself with a URL. First point - IE7 reports the
certificate
as unverified but I went past that anyway - right ? After that I'm taken
to a
page which has 2 buttons, "Install Now" and "Cancel". Pressing Install
Now
gives a 404 Error, page not found.

I tried this on my main PC, which is (currently) running XP Home. Now, OK
I
realise that's not properly joined to the domain and in fact TM says that
remote install won't work on XP Home. It doesn't say how I should install
it,
but hey.

However - I also tried it from my laptop, which is XP Pro, and got
exactly
the same problem.

Any pointers ?
