Thanks all. Yes, Colin I was disappointed with TrendMicro yesterday. I
visited their site on recommendation from Harry Brelsford (whose "Best
Practices" book I'm working through). Not only can I not buy and download
(why on earth not) but when you look for a reseller it's damn near
impossible
to find anyone in the UK who will even tell you the price !
Symantec is my experience in my previous life. No problems with it and I
guess for me it's the natural choice. I just wanted other opinions before
I
took a punt.
There are 2 dimensions to the question as well. Though this is early days
for me at the sharp end of server installations I am hoping to set myself
up
as a Small Business Specialist in the UK. So - not only what should I use,
but what should I recommend to clients ? That means what will give me and
them the minimum hassles.

Hi Mick,
You're gonna get a few recommendations for Trend Micro CSM here. Here in
the
UK it's not quite so popular because it can only be bought through
resellers
(and not direct from Trend as in the US) and my experience of them so far
has
been grim to say the least. I used to recommend F-Secure Small Business
Suite
when it was version 6.x because it installed via central console on the
server and worked a treat (anti virus/spyware/spam/ firewall if you
wanted
it/Cisco NAC Support). Now that they 'fixed' it via version 7, I wouldn't
touch it - the release notes imply that if you install in a certain order
the
product may cause server instability etc), support is flaky etc. I've
just
installed Sophos SBE 2.0 on a SBS 2003 Prem box and although it's my
first
time with Sophos I was very impressed with the ease and speed of
install -
very simple setup. It includes Client/Server antivirus/spyware/spam (at
the
Exchange end) and again, a client firewall if you want it. There was a
post
about this software yesterday which concerned me but a quick mail to
Sophos
confirmed that this issue affects upgrades only and not clean installs
(and I
believe there is now a fix for the issue). The 3 emails received within 3
hours also confirmed that the support team are on the ball.
Regards Colin.

Hi all,
New SBS server set up, I need to choose an anti-virus solution for the
server and our handful of client machines.
1. If you had an open cheque book which solution would you recommend
for
maximum security, automated scanning and filtering of emails on the
server
plus the usual auto-protect against anything happening on the clients
2. Now, considering value for money : does the recommendation change ?
.
