Re: ISA Service Pack 3

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I have ISA Firewall Client deployed via Group Policy, not by the SBS log-in
script, which was why I (foolishly?!) expected something to automatically
update.

I've previously has great problems installing a newer Firewall Client, when
an older version was already installed - whether by group policy or run
manually. It typically made a hash of uninstalling/upgrading, so I normally
manually uninstall first. However, this time running a repair from
Add/Remove Programs did upgrade the existing version without problems.

I ran the CE&ICW because: "It's SBS! So any problem, first run the wizard!"
Just wish there was a wizard that made customers pay me on time!

"Configure mobile device" is a program menu shortcut on the client
workstation. Added, I believe, for any user in the Mobile Users group. The
comment is:
"Reconfigures your mobile device with the correct Small Business Server
connection settings."
and it runs:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business
Server\Clients\sbsmobcfg.exe"
which adds connection settings for remote access to the server, etc.

I haven't yet got to the bottom of the problem on my PDA (o2 Xda Exec (HTC
Universal/Imate JasJar clone)). Due to time constraints I had to
reconfigure to sync only with Outlook 2k3 on the PC and not direct with
Exchange server. Will see tonight.

I don't have a problem with the PDA (HP iPaq rw6828).

SBS does not 'push' the ISA client by group policy, the sbslogin script
'pulls' applications from the server _if_ the clientsetup files indicate
such should occur. As it's 'ISA SP3' rather than 'SBS ISA SP3' I'm not
surprised that the ISA client update did not occur automagically. I am
however a little disappointed that attempting to run
\\sbs\mspclient\setup.exe resulted in a message 'the client is installed,
I'm outta here' (or similar), expecting the latest ISA client to
recognise, remove, and install ain't too much, is it?

I was not advised to run the CEICW so have not done so. Everything appears
to be working.

Where's this 'configure mobile device' option you refer to? I can't see
such.

I'm on SBS2003 SP1+WS 2003 SP2, not R2.

Installed okay, but....

First problem noticed was that it blew away my PDA connection to Exchange
Server. An error indicated that the "my WM5 device was not compatible
with the proxy server". I think the error was: 0x85010008.
I'm still looking into this, but have found the following so far:
- the connections settings on the PDA had disappeared - was working
fine 10-minutes before the Sp3 update was applied!
- the firewall client on the workstation had not been updated to the
SP3 client version.

Firstly re-ran the CE&ICW, specified all values again, and rebooted to
see if the Group Policy deployment of the Firewall Client would update -
it didn't - still at Sp2 level.
Tried "gpupdate /force" and rebooted, but that did not update the client
either - still at Sp2 level, although an event-log message indicated that
(unspecified) "Changes to software installation settings were applied
successfully".
Then used 'Add/Remove Programs' and specified a 'Repair' of the firewall
client. This worked and the client is now seen as v.4.0.3442.654, dated
2006/Dec/09. For information; the new firewall client can be easily
identified by having "three" tabs: General, Settings, Web Browser, rather
than two tabs. The "Settings" tab now has a "Apply Default Settings Now"
button - which applies those ISA server settings for all users/services
on that workstation.
Used the 'Configure Mobile Device' option on the workstation to push the
SBS settings to the PDA.
Configured the correct LAN connection and tried Pocket Internet Explorer.
It began to render the page of "http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/pda";, then
suddenly crashed PIE. Same happened with all my other favourites. Same
result after reboot of PDA and workstation.
As a test, I also tried SBSH's Pocket Weather on the PDA. This connected
and updated the weather forecast and maps via the link "PDA on USB to
workstation, to Ethernet LAN, to SBS, to Internet" without problem.

Unfortunately, I feel an uninstall coming on! Whether or not it will
work afterwards, is in the hands of the gods, I guess! Incidentally, I'm
also running SBS2k3-R2-Premium+Sp2.

done, without grief so far, but then I'm also running WS SP2.
