somewhat of an idiot. I have had some great advice here though (THANKS!)
which is why I am back. Please, if anyone can figure this out I would be
very appreciative of any help.
I have a 2 nic config of sbs 2003 configured by CEICW:
nic 1 (internal)
10.0.0.50
255.255.255.0
gateway is empty
dns is 10.0.0.50 (also registered to listen on this interface)
wins is 10.0.0.50 (netbios over tcp/ip also on this)
Nic 2 (external)
10.0.0.60
255.255.255.0
gateway is 10.0.0.2 (router device)
dns is 10.0.0.50
wins is disabled
I am setting the server up using one laptop client (more to add when
everything works). The client can see the server (sort of):
10.0.0.99
255.255.255.0
dns 10.0.0.50
wins 10.0.0.50
gateway 10.0.0.50 (have tried 10.0.0.60 and 10.0.0.2 - the router)
Initially my client could not see the server @ all, not even ping but after
disableing the routing and remote access service I would ping, my docs etc.
Will I later for disableing this service?
I can get the net from the server, I can even RWW into the server from the
internet (I almost cried with happy, something worked!), but I can not get
the companyweb?
Really really confused, any advice or even just a clue as to where to start
would be great!
On initial completion of installing SBS theres the wizard that installs
everything else and you select the server roles to configure and the process
sets up dns, active directory, sharepoint and all the rest. is there a way
of re-running this wizard. I was positive i read in the administrators
companion that it can be done but I cant find the reference again and can
not find a mention of the wizard in either server management, administrative
tools or control panel. just me being stupid?
I elected not to install dhcp server also but have decided that I probably
should have done and tried to do it post install. I used the add windows
components do-hickie and al seemed well but on using the dhcp manager (in
server management i think?) i get a no dhcp server found error, on going
into services I can see the service but it is stopped and immediately stops
when i try to start it.
My root drive is configured to f:\ not c:\ (dont know why?), will this cause
issues and can i/should change it c:\
any and all help/advice will be sooooo appreciated!
I can get @ my socument which have been re-directed to c:\users
I can ping 10.0.0.50 (only, not 10.0.0.60 or anything else)
Can not get the internet
First:
If possible, format and install SBS again.
Second:
Format and install SBS AGAIN.
Third: Look at this:
http://www.smallbizserver.net/tabid/266/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/74/Default.aspx
We need more info about your internet to help you further (dynamic IP?
Router? ISA?)
Fourth:
Format and install SBS again.
You should really get used to SBS before you try and put it into
production. Suggest using SBS for DHCP....its just simpler.
