Hi BHAF.The issue here is that the OP wants to connect the external NIC to
Twin NIC's is how mine is set up. Have all the hardware in place when you set up and the install takes care of it all. FYI - I did have the Internet cable out during install. Don't know if that helped it or not. but worth a mention.
It set up everything for internal / external lan, asking appropriate questions as it went along.
I find it interesting that some people are suggesting a single NIC. That instantly compromises the whole LAN if the router / firewall is compromised. I ran SBS2000 with twin NIC's also, and found the incidence of issues on the LAN side for me were nil. I like the twin NIC's. Get past the router, you still have to get past ISA to get to the LAN. Just another level of protection.
the firewall DMZ, and also the internal NIC to the firewall LAN port
and workstations. This is then a single-NIC installation from the
point of view of the workstations, bypassing ISA and using the firewall
as the default gateway, with the complication of having an 'external'
NIC as well to accept incoming connections.
I don't believe all the SBS functions will work that way. It needs to
be normal 2-NIC, which the OP says might prove too high a load for SBS,
or normal 1-NIC.
