Re: SP2/SP1

I honestly don't think we'll see a Windows Server 2003 SP2 just for SBS. The issues will have to be dealt with via KB's.

The best we can hope for is an updated SBS 2003 installation set, that includes everything up to and including Windows Server SP2.

Do yourself a favor and don't install SP2. As Les pointed out, the fixes are known but it's not pretty. We are waiting for MS to come out with SP2 for SBS for all our clients.

Hi Craig,

I don't know how MS could make this any harder, nor do I know how they could make it easier ;-/.

One cannot refer to SP1 or SP2 or SP<anything> without also including the full product name that goes along with it.

SBS SP1 includes:

Windows Server 2003 SP1
Exchange SP1
<other stuff>
** Small Buinsess Server SP1

Note the confusion, where SP1 is mentioned several times, and where Small Business Server SP1 is mentioned twice. If you install Windows Server 2003 SP1 without the rest of the SBS SP1, you break stuff.

There is currently no SP2 for SBS, but there is Windows Server SP2. If you install Windows Server SP2 on SBS, before installing at least Windows Server 2003 SP1 *AND* the bit with the two asteriks, you break stuff. Even *WITH* all of the pre-requisites, you'll probably break stuff with WS SP2, but the fixes are known.

The best advice I can give is to install service packs in the order that they were released, skipping nothing unless you have received specific information that indicates they can be skipped. On that note, you can safely skip Exchange SP1 and install Exchange SP2 in it's place ;-).

Hi,
On SBS 2003 does SP1 need to be installed before I can install SP2?

Thanks, Craig
