Hello Marcus,
Thank you for kind update.
Since you can not establish VPN connection from internal, let's narrow down
this issue.
1. Please try to use another internal client to try to establish the VPN,
does it success?
2. Please run command "nslookup www.mydns.com" on the client, do you get
the IP address of your firewall external inferface?
3. Please try to establish VPN connection manually instead of run
sbspackage.exe in XP to test this issue:
1). Click Start , click Control Panel , click Network and Internet
Connections , and then click Network Connections .
2). Click Create a new connection , and then click Next .
3). Click Connect to the network at my workplace , and then click Next .
4). Click Virtual Private Network connection , and then click Next .
5). Type a descriptive name for your company, and then click Next .
6). Click Do not dial the initial connection , and then click Next.
7). Type the host name or IP address of the computer where you are
connecting, and then click Next .
Important: input the SBS IP address (X.Y.Z.100) here for test.
8). Use one of the following methods:
o Click Anyone's use if you want to share the connection with all users.
o Click My use only if you do not want to share the connection.
9). Click Next , and then click Finish .
Does the VPN connection can be established? Do you get the same error 721?
4. Please use the Networking MPS report to collect the SBS event logs and
other configuration info:
a. Download MPSreport_network from
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
b. Run MPSRPT_NETWORK.exe on the server box.
c. The tool will automatically collect the information. This procedure will
take 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder:
%SystemRoot%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\Cab\
e. Send the .cab file directly to my mailbox: v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| a) OK, my LAN the VPN server has IP X.Y.Z.100. Same IP as the DHP server
etc.
| b) The LAN side of my firewall has IP X.Y.Z.1
| c) The WAN side of my firewall has (dynamic) IP A.B.C.D
| d) I now have a dynamic DNS through www.dyndns.org which maps the WAN IP
to
| mydns.com
| e) With all of this information I go the the SBS "server management ->
| connect to the internet" wizard and follow Terence's instructions (threat
3).
| Fine and good.
| f) I then run the "server management -> configure remote access" wizard.
| Fine and good.
| g) In save sbspackage.exe to a USB stick.
| h) I plug the USB stick into a PC on my LAN and load the sbspackage.exe.
| i) This creates a shortcut on the desktop which, when I click, opens a
| dialogue. I tyoe a Remote User credentials and get, after a few moments,
a
| 721 error.
| j) So, I can't conect to the server via the VPN from the LAN..
|
|
| What does this mean?
|
