Hi Ben,

Thanks for posting here.

From the description, I understand the issue is that when you check the
"Automaticially update email addresses based on recipient policy", the
recipient policy seems to be changing the primary address back to old
naming convention [Surname][FirstInital]. If I am off base, please don't
hesitate to let me know.

Please check the recipient policy, default policy, Please remove rule about
the old naming convention, and retain rule about new naming convention as
primary. then check the "Automatically update email addresses based on
recipient policy" option.

I think you do not use recipient policy to change your smtp address, you
just go to active directory users and computers and manually add the new
smtp address.but the old smtp address is generated by recipient policy. The
policy will take effect when checked "Automaticially update email addresses
based on recipient policy".

So you can go to recipient policy, delete the rule about old naming
convention [Surname][FirstInital]. Or you can create a new rule to generate
the new naming convention [FirstName][Surname],and make the rule as primary.

To do so:
1.open exchange system manager,go to recipients,recipient policies.
2.in the right panel,double click default policy,go to E-mail
Address(Policy) tab.
3.delete the rule about old naming convention [Surname][FirstInital]

Anyway,I do not know if you generate the smtp address by recipient
policy. It seems that you manually add smtp address via active directory
users and computers. Please confirm with me.

If there are no old rule in recipient policy, the change of primary address
never happen.

I appreciate your time. I am happy to be of assistance and look forward to
your reply.
