Hi Terence,
Many thnaks for this update. I spent all day yesterday with a major issue
with two of our new starts profiles on the machines they will be using - they
are going to be using two of the problematic machines. Cannot get WORD to
open via a link in ACT, it keeps telling me the WORD engine will not start
but I can quite happy open a WORD document which is an attachment within
ACT!!!!. Could all be related.
The PC's require someone with admin rights to load new software and I
noticed that when logging off after using the admin' account it also just had
the option to log off not shut down | restart etc. However in saying that I
am positive that another new user who logged onto a totally different machine
had the same problem. I was not there at the time and was given the message
third hand.
I am out of the office again today but may be going in on Sunday as I am
going to try and investigate how to merge one Exchange mail box of an
employee who has left into a mail box of the new start. Also have another
look at this weird WORD, ACT problem. If I don't manage to get in on Sunday
I will definitley do this testing for you on Monday.
It all seems to be happening at present.
Many thanks again Terence for all your help on this. The whole thing seems
to be turning into a bit of an mightmare.

Hello Ken,.
Thank you for kind update.
First, please let me know:
1. When you logon the problematic user account on the good user's computer,
does it have a same issue?
2. When you logon the good user account on the problematic user's computer,
does it have a same issue?
3. Does the client computer local account have the same issue?
I suggest we try the following steps to see if we can resolve this issue:
Step 1:
1. Right-click the taskbar, and then click Properties .
2. Click the Start Menu tab.
3. The option for Classic Start menu should be selected. Click Customize .
4. Under Advanced Start menu options , click to select the Display Log Off
check box, click OK , and then click OK .
Step 2:
1. Please run gpedit.msc on problematic computer
2. Extend Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security
Settings->Local Policies->User Rights Assignment
3. Double click Shut down the system option in right pane.
4. Add the problematic user account in the list. Click OK
5. Exit Group Policy editor and test this issue.
If we can not resolve the issue after we perform the above steps, please
kindly help me collect some information for further investigation:
1. Save the application event log and system event log as evt files on the
problematic machine and send to my mailbox: v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
2. Please capture screenshots on the shutdown window and send the pictures
to me at v-terliu@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
3. Run command "gpresult > c:\gpresult.txt" on the problematic machine,
send the file c:\gpresult.txt to me.
Hope these steps will give you some help.
Thanks and have a nice day!
Best regards,
Terence Liu(MSFT)

| Finally got our server back. Tried your suggestion on the three accounts
-

starting

Shut
