Re: No Service Pack installed on SBS... what do I do?

SBS Update Services (R2) does a good job, with individual settings for clients and servers. All nicely set up in group policy. Nice reporting via the Server Performance report.

Failing that, there's no issue with Automatic Updates on servers, providing you select the 'safe' options - it doesn't have to be an on/off choice. Set AU on the servers to 'download and notify'. When updates are ready, select the 'custom' install, and only select the updates you want, deselect the ones you don't want.

Personally myself I am against auto updates to my servers. There are some updates that are not necessary and case in point if it was turned on and it did download and install SP2 then you would have issues right now I'm sure. I have no objections to manually checking once a wekk and having the option to be selective in what is installed. Your best option is to use the link I provided and take Frank's suggestion of installing Exchange SP2 inplace of Exchange SP1. And take note there is a particular order in which SP1 updates need to be applied.

There is neither SP 1 or 2 on my SBS 2003 Std Edition. What is the order of

I can't advise on the best order, but I do suggest that you turn on automatic updates - or at the very least go to http:\\update.microsoft.com and get all the updates it suggests. I seem to remember that it downloaded SP1 automatically, don't recall whether it installed SP2 or whether I did that manually. I don't think it installs SP2 for Exchange - but there is a SP1 for SBS that includes exchange sp1 and windows update will pull it down for you.
