Re: Slow Internet Witn SBS 2003

Thanks Merv. The Verizon IPs did the trick. I am back to normal. I
couldn't even ping the comcast addresses you gave me.

I think part of the problem was that my router was set up to use the
automatic configuration of the DNS server and use the IP addresses I had as a
backup. It must have been using the auto configuration.

are the verizon addresses static, or is there a chance they may change?

Any way - thanks for the help.

For Comcast DNS nameservers, try:

68.42.244.5
68.42.244.6

But you might want to also try Verizon's nameservers (as Comcast seems to
have problems from time-to-time):

4.2.2.4
4.2.2.5

Re-run CEICW and add these as forwarders on the Router Connection screen.

I have found information on this issue before, but no solutions. I just
set
up SBS 2003 for the first time and am having issues with slow internet
access. I used the wizards for all setup up and try installing SBS 2003
twice, but have had no luck. I found an article in the knowledgebase, but
it
described the configuration that I already have set up. My internal
network
traffic is very responsive.

My SBS server has two NIC cards. One is connected to the router which is
then connected to my broadband modem. It is assigned an IP address that
is
on a different subnet from the rest of the domain (192.168.1.142). The
second NIC card has a static IP from within the range of the DHCP service
on
the server (192.168.16.2) and is connected to a switch that then goes to
the
client PCs.

I can connect to the internet, but it often takes 20 seconds for a page to
load. I can ping the DNS IP address that I am using from Comcast. I
honestly don't know what a good average response time is from a DNS
server.
I am seeing times around 37ms. One issue I am having is that Comcast
won't
confirm the two IP addresses I have (a tech gave them to me several months
ago), but I assumed that since I can ping them, they should be ok.

Is there anything else I can check? I saw similar posts on the internet,
but no solutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the info from an ipconfig/all:

Pinging 68.87.77.13 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 68.87.77.13: bytes=32 time=32ms TTL=246
