open office and staroffice are not what I would consider useable
alternatives and were not asked about.

I see that others share the opinion that Vista in an SBS environment is
not neccessarily the way to go at this point in time, what about Office
2007 over 2003?
stick with 2003 for now. If possible, get openoffice or staroffice!
2007 is NOT backward compatible with 2003. On office 2003, you have to
download a plugin to get it to see 2007 files. This is on the microsoft
site, please spend some time reading their stuff on technet. It's very
good information.

for long term file storage, many companies have standardized on adobe
acrobat. Please keep this in mind. This is also why ODF is a very good
idea. Please learn about this and more at www.openoffice.org. If you
want commercial support, get staroffice.

openoffice is free!! It works great, even on terminal server. Keep that
in mind when suggesting solutions to clients. We always win bids when we
show the cost savings of getting out of microsoft office.
Most small businesses work fine with openoffice or staroffice.
