Re: Connection monitor versus licenses

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

No, BC. That's not the point at all.

If you're waiting for the SBS to tell you when you're legal, that's the equivalent of waiting for your car to tell you your drivers license has expired. It ain't going to happen.

You KNOW there are 5 CALs installed, and you KNOW there are 14? users (or more), and SBS has even done better than your car by telling you you've had up to 15 users connect to the SBS, and the event lots have WARNED you that you're 'probably' not legal.

The business owner knows this too, or if he doesn't, then there's a problem that's beyond the scope of a technical discussion.

The onus is on the owner of the car to have a valid drivers license, not on the car. The onus is on the owner of the SBS to be in compliance. It's a simple concept. You don't do illegal things just because you can, just because there's little or nothing stopping you. Do you?

The rules are in the End User License Agreement. Somebody accepted that when the software was installed. That somebody is responsible. If you change your mind, and don't want to play by those rules, that's no problem. Just uninstall the software and everything is cool.

I'm not a legal guy, I don't enjoy licensing issues, but I do know right from wrong and my bet is you do as well.

There are no winks nor nods, if you need CALs you buy them and install them.
It's impossible to lay blame at this point, all we know is what we know, and
what we know is that they need more CALs.

I know you're saying that with a virtual wink
and a nod -- you can't kid a kidder. Since I trust
SBS will dutifully warn them again when they
reach their limit, I'll take the yellow warning
flag when they reach their ALLOWED limit as
a nod, and anything below that as a wink.

With a wink and a blink....
