SMTP Mail server setup question

Good morning all...

I have SBS2K3 R2 Premium. Setting up SMTP mail and have full control over MX
and A records with a static IP.

The question I have relates to "naming" of the mail server. I've seen
numerous posts that show mail.domainname.xxx. Do I have to set my MX & A
based on the server name used during setup?

For example, if my domain name is ESITX.com and my server name is WINGER
must I use WINGER.ESITX.com as the mail server name for the MX and A? or
can I change the Exchange name in the SMTP connector and use mail.ESITX.com
instead? If the latter, where do I change that in Exchange?

Thank you for all your support from this news group.
