Grey... I'm shocked. To think that I would ever ignore you. But then
again it late and I may not have thoroughly read all the posts on this
thread, so I could be treading on your posts. ;-)

And if you only have a dynamic WAN (public) IP address now, as Les said,
you can set up the POP3 Connector to retrieve the mail and have Exchange
automatically distribute it to your users. You also can have all the
other features of SBS with the proper set up.

Do you see any accounts (on the workstations) like:
\Documents and Settings\joesmith.DOMAIN
or
\Documents and Settings\joesmith.DOMAIN.000
or
\Documents and Settings\joesmith.DOMAIN.001
The .pst files associated with the original server install may be in
these. One of these profiles will be for the reinstall, the others will
be for previous installs or for the original "local" account (before
joining to any domain).
Start your search for "*.pst" (no quotes) at the root of the
workstation (C:). Then import any that you find into the present
Outlook profile - the one created after the reinstall of the server and
rejoin to the domain.

Grey and Les,
Thank you for the replies.
I've searched for .pst files on their workstations and they are there
but
they only contain the email they dragged over to their archives. The
.pst
files do not contain any of their recent emails. One person is missing
for several weeks and it's not in a .pst... I'm stumped!!!
As far as setting up Exchange right off the bat I have to get ahold of
the
ISP to set up a MX and an A DNS record and this ISP is awful to deal
with. I
can't get them to return my calls! In the meantime I'm stuck with POP3
on
their servers.
Any more ideas about the missing email?
Thanks again.
Brian
If they weren't using exchange, their old mail will be in a .pst file.
Search the computer for pst files, and import the .pst file you think
is the
right one.
BTW, why not the POP3 connector and exchange right off the hop? You're
making it harder than it could be.

I reinstalled my customer's server with SBS 2003. The server had not
been
set up properly, updates were not installing and there was other
unusual
behavior.
The previous installation did not have Exchange installed, they were
downloading their email directly from the ISP via POP3.
After I set the server up I joined the workstations to a workgroup
and
then
rejoined them to the new domain.
I set their Outlook clients up again (not using Exchange yet but it
is
installed on the server), opened Outlook, downloaded the new email
to
their
workstations (they had been gone for several days).
Their old email is gone!!!! What did I do wrong???!!!
I realize now I should have done an export on their email prior to
unjoinging/rejoining but I didn't. Any idea where I can find their
email?
They have their old archives but unfortunately it does not have the
that was sitting in their inboxes.
Thank you for any assistance.
